I was in Bruges when this exhibit came to my attention. Unfortunately, I had to return to a cruise ship and did not have enough time to see it.
All these years I have been looking for the book of photographs and I hear there is a book now out.
I keep checking my library, but it seems to be available only in Korea.
Will the book be made available in Canada? It is such an important topic and so many of us are eager to see these photos and the comments.
Superb blog! Do you have any suggestions for aspiring writers? I'm planning to start my own blog soon but I'm a little lost on everything. Would you propose starting with a free platform like Wordpress or go for a paid option? There are so many choices out there that I'm completely overwhelmed ..
Any ideas? Thank you! backlinks kosten
Love the world more.
Inspiring work and some great photography. Thank you for creating this.
I saw this good exhibition today !! I am very surprised with your idea!! It is the best exhibition ever! -I am big fan of yours~~ Keep going with your art!!
Went to your exhibition yesterday. Taking the last moment must had been multiemotional progress for the patients...I felt that your exhibition presents not just the death it self but the life in whole phase as you had put it in a different, calm way, not forcing tears. Thanks for giving me the time to look back my days and wisdom to live further, fully. Thanks for your efforts, it must have been extremely challenging. Wish you enjoy Seoul while you are here.
I saw this exhibit last year in Bruge, shortly after my Dad had been diagnosed with a terminal illness. Here are my thoughts on what I saw: https://tallrachel.wordpress.com/2016/12/26/right-before-i-die/
I just found about this project...and, therefore, missed the Los Angeles exhibit. Will there be another exhibit in California? Blessings
Will this exhibit come near Cologne?
Will this exhibit come near San Luis Obispo in the future? If not, how do I begin to arrange for that to happen?
I work in a hospital and listening to stories from patients and this project has inspired me greatly to look at my life and its meaning.
Very sorry to tell everyone that John passed on July 13th 2013.... Thank God for this project.
Simply breathtaking.
There is something about these photos that inspires me so much. I'm a hobby photographer but I never seen in my life photos like this. It's like these people are standing right in front of me. Amazing work. Speechless.
It's really moving. We busy everyday we just focus on our trifles, instead of the very core of live.Maybe only when we are truly confronted with death do we realize how beautiful lives are.Thank you so much to give me a chance to think about this essential thing (^_^)
Thank you for this great project. It makes me think into the meaning of life. I got a moment away from work and truly feel those subtle concepts, 'happiness' 'love'... which I've been ignored for so long, are those truly matter to me.
Hi!! I really liked your job and I thought that it's inspiring, so wanna know if you have a Facebook's page or maybe an account on Instagram so I could follow your updates daily. Thank you for your time and congratulations on your job, it's really beautiful!
Dear Andrew,
I am a school teacher in Taiwan. I teach career education in senior high school.
Today I saw a website. Someone I don't know translate ur words and report it in my language (http://www.life.com.tw/?app=view&no=13528)
I am so touched about this project. You really took great photos and record the words of these nice & normal people. I want too share these pics with my students and other teachers in classes.
Now I try to image my own picture in the last moment of my life. That make me want to cherish my family and friends. So much thanks for ur work.
Thanks you for creating such a meaningful and inspiring project and thanks those who are willing to share their feeling with others at their final moment. I cannot help crying when I was reading their words. After that, I felt peaceful and that I had learnt something very important.
Jimmy
Thank you for creating this wonderful project. I feel sad and peaceful, and it's a strange feeling. But it is amazing to feel it. I'm grateful for that. I really hope all these people past to the other side in peace, and I hope they're happy with their loved ones now.
God bless y'all. (No matter what god you believe).
What a wonderful and inspiring project - and what fantastic people. This is real humanity. Lives lived and reflected upon, so that lessons can be learnt. The sense of acceptance and forgiveness is palpable - these people are truly free. People really do save the best till last.
Thanks so much for this project. xxx
What you're doing is truly inspiring. I have never had a death in my immediate family and seeing your project is really eye opening. Many of the people you have interviewed and photographed, have beautiful perspectives on life. This has taught me to have a positive outlook on life as a 17 year old. God bless you and everyone was is involved in this project.
Thank you for creating such a moving and beautiful piece of work. Its an inspiration to read about and see all these people, but its also and inspiration to see you embrace the subject of death with such dignity.
Great! I hope, the sun still shining for them
I would just like to sincerely thank you for creating this project. It's so incredibly powerful and moving and revealing. It astounds me how a photo can truly capture the essence of a person. This project brought me to tears and I cannot thank you enough for that.
I am stunned to see how simple life actually is through the eyes of someone who is about to lose it. Happiness is also that easy, we just complicate it with unnecessary details when we should enjoy it. This is a good example of how we don't get to really appreciate what we have until we are aware that it might be gone. Yet, they are at peace with this.
Wonderful project, I am very moved reading through all their thoughts.
I am deeply touched by the beauty and fullness of humanity that is revealed in this book of photos and heart felt interviews. Thank you to everyone who shared and participated. Absolutely beautiful. Judy
Sara is very optimistic and I really enjoy hearing her answers to the questions being asked. I too am a very optimistic person, or like to think I am. I believe that being positive in life and fulfilled in love with others is important. Sara is so nice to listen to and I wish her well. I wish all the patients well. Thanks so much for sharing yourself!
I am touched and intrigued by this project. Amazing work! It's human vulnerability and beauty at its best.
Photo projects come and go every day. This one has substance. Right Before I Die lets people who are near death have their say. It doesn't preach and you know they are telling us the truth, about who they are and what they feel as they face death. The portraits are simple and direct. their eyes have honesty in them. Worth more than a few minutes of my day.
Beautiful words and flies... beautiful sharing
'Try and love everyone you meet' said Ralph and you did it so respectfully !
It goes straight to the heart. thank you.
A beautiful and moving article. Imagine the surprise and joy I experienced when I saw the photo of my friend Chuck. I knew Chuck and his wife Joy for many years and recently connected with Joy during my USA visit.
Everyone loses to bear witness and be a part of someone's new arrival in this world. There is as much beauty and honor in bearing witness to the leaving, though few are comfortable in that role. My husband is beginning this journey, and before him, I saw this in my parents and his. It is a gift, but not well understood and often under appreciated.
Thank You
I have lost my Mom and my Brother-in-law over the past 12 years. This has helped.
I have tried to put my life into prospective and this helps
Those people are Hero's!!!!!
These people are just Amazing!!!!!
May God continue to bless them and their souls
Strong portraits and poignant testimonies, a big congratulations and respect.
Hello,
Your work is great, full of humanity. I don't write in a good English, so I can't transmit to you my feeling in front of your pictures. It is a complete work with testimonies, wrote notes (interesting to see the way to write), I ask only : everybody seems to believe in God. It is your choice to take only this kind of people ?
All the best
What is your following subject?
Christine
Beautiful work.
Dear Andrew. I am from China and know your site by Weibo. Your photos have inspired me. Thank you very much! Finally, there are so many Chinese young people need these words and photos. Thank you!
I am going to send this to my almost eighteen year old daughter, who is about to finish high school and said to me the other day: 'I want to do something good in the world'. I answered that this could be done in any kind of occupation, that the important thing was to have a 'good intention'. This seems to say that, and so beautifully. Truly moving and wonderful homage to the dying and the living.
I love this piece. It has really touched me. I was lost in life when I came across this. Or feeling that way anyway. Just one of those days I guess. And this changed my perspective and took me on a journey I wasn't expecting to go on. Really helped to put things into perspective. I'm alive. I have everything I need. Thank you so much for putting this out there for people like me to come across. Truly Amazing. Beautiful Art.
Very powerful. I was feeling depressed and it gave me perspective. I came to the conclusion that my depression was a dangerous type of ambivalence. We have so little time and it's a supreme waste to take it for granted. Thi
thank you for this. i was touched.
i have told everyone close to me to check this out...it's life changing if you open yourself up to it.
I found some amazing words of wisdom in some of these interviews. This is something i will never forget.
amazing photography. you really seemed to capture everyone's essence.
Truly inspiring.
